This year was our sixth annual family camping trip (or as we call it our “glamping trip” since the tents come with a bed and heaters!) to El Capitan Canyon, near Santa Barbara, California. We so enjoy this opportunity to be with loved ones in a beautiful setting. And there’s a lot of loved ones! We are only two of the 11 families that go together every year.
This year, we ran across a fellow camper, Mr. Jack Black, star of many hit movies including School of Rock, Gulliver’s Travels and our favorite, Kung Fu Panda. He was charming, funny and gracious with the grown-ups. But he was a veritable pied-piper to the kids as they swarmed around him wherever he went. It was a pleasure chatting with him!
As exciting as it was to hang out with such a likeable celebrity, the highlights of the trip were singing around the campfire (you should see Dr. Dana do the Cup Song from the movie, Pitch Perfect!), swimming with the kids in the pool, scavenger hunts in the canyon, walks to the beach and s’mores every night. Every year this beautiful experience reminds us to slow down and appreciate our fabulous friends, kids and husbands.
